Gitgit Instrument

The gitgit, or the three-stringed indigenous violin of the Hanunoo-Mangyan, is not only an instrument that is played during the interludes of an ambahan poem. It also serves as a vessel for some of the ambahan scripts. The ambahan is often engraved on handy items such as lime, betel nut, and tobacco containers, bolo sheaths, and the gitgit.
