On this day, Dr.Jose Rizal’s El Filibusterismo was printed in Ghent, Belgium, on  Sept.18, 1891.


Also known as “The Reign of Greed,” the novel was dedicated in memory of the executed priests Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora, known as the “Gomburza.


Written in Spanish, the novel inspired the people of the Philippines to revolt against Spain, culminating in the Philippine Revolution of 1896.
