Tambi

This instrument is a whole node of bamboo. It has two strings cut free from the bamboo itself with rattan rings at the end to support it. The strings are lifted by small bamboo pegs.


A piece of bamboo or a platform is placed in the middle to connect both strings. A hole is bored under the platform as a resonator. It is played by striking the platform with a stick.


Among the Kalinga people, this is called tambi, and is played in a group of five to six in graduated sizes, producing a series of patches that create a melody through interlocking.
