Tambis (Syzygium aqueum (Burm.f.) Alston)


Tambis is an evergreen tree with a small crown that usually grows 6 to 10 meters tall.


They can be found in fairly moist tropical lowlands and are usually cultivated for their wood and edible fruit.


Often confused with the Macopa, the fruit is a yellow or red bell-shaped berry with crunchy, crisp, and juicy flesh, which is commonly eaten raw but can also be made into syrup.


The wood is used for making musical instruments, tool handles, furniture components, ship-building, heavy carpentry, and flooring.
